Description

This Jolly Roger is dedicated to another Great Dutch Pirate: Laurens de Graaf [link]

Laurens is my newest favourite amongst Sea-Rogues.

As he NEVER committed murder (although in one case some of his men did, I'll get back on that issue)

And never harmed his captives, He even stood up for them!

One one case his partner Nicholas van Hoorn, who got very impatient waiting for the promised ransom, decided to add more pressure to the Spanish by executing a dozen hostages from the town Vera Cruz.

De Graaf however stopped this before van Hoorn could put his gruesome plan to action.

In another similar case (as I've mentioned before) De Graaf's men had successfully captured Campeche. after having little success finding valuables in the town and being unable to secure a ransom for the captives, the frustrated Pirates started burning the town and executing prisoners.

Until Laurens stepped up and put an end to the madness.

De Graaf however wasn't known for his humanity.

As he primarily attacked Spanish ships and towns, and probably because he was so Good at it, the Spanish fought of him as the devil himself.

This flag however isn't historically accurate, It's simply an idea of what Laurens de Graaf's Jolly Roger would look like if he had one. Laurens de Graaf instead used a plain Blue flag when attacking vessels. [link]
